Sheri Somerville is the Natural Gas Advisor in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). With more than 16 years of multi-sector experience in public relations and business communications at the local, national and international levels, and a thorough understanding of the natural gas sector in the Maritimes; Sheri is responsible for engaging a stakeholders, communities, groups, and associations, to encourage the flow of science-based information about natural gas potential, exploration and development, its fit into the energy portfolio, and the economic opportunities it presents in Atlantic Canada.

Engineering Entrepreneurship: Building a Business with a Technical Background

Dhirendra Shukla has been the Dr. J. Herbert Smith ACOA Chair since September 2009. Part of the Faculty of Engineering, The Dr. J. Herbert Smith Centre is the only centre of its kind in Atlantic Canada, where students from a variety of backgrounds come together to cultivating new ideas, creative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit in the ever changing world of technology. Many students from the program, especially chemical engineers, have had business success at the national level. The presentation will discuss the steps from idea generation to developing a business model, with a focus on engineering-related ideas and show that entrepreneurship can be a viable career path with an engineering background.
